93 Points, World Wine Championships - 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon
92 Points Exceptional--
2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Wine Exchange
This is one to watch..as this is an ipressive, fleshy, very nicely endowed effort from mountain fruit from a single vineyard in southeastern Napa. Vintage 2001
Alan Goldfarb, The St. Helena Star
Its tight structure gives up flavors of plum and cassis; wine has a wonderful balance and long finish with a backbone of substantial tannins for long-term aging, say twenty years.
Jefferson Cup Invitational
Out of five hundred wines invited to participate in this Missouri wine competition, only sixty-seven wines were selected at Jefferson Cup nominees. Phelan was one of them; a Jefferson Cup nominee.
Wine Spectator
Well-structured with a taut core of cedar, currant and chewy oak and fruit tannins. Highly extracted and rich. 2000 Vintage 90 points
Paul Franson, Napa Valley Register
Its an impressive wine enjoyable now with its relatively soft tannins, but it has the acid balance and depth of tannins to allow it to encourage extended aging. The wine is deep magenta in color with aromas of black cherry caramel and toasted vanilla from the French oak.
Wine Enthusiast
The wine is smooth, rich, sleek and plush on the palate, with pretty plum, black cherry, tar, coffee and more spice flavors. The finish is long. 2000 Vintage 91 points
California Grapevine
Medium dark ruby; attractive, intense, spicy, plumy, dark currant and ripe black cherry fruit aroma with overtones of toasty charred oak. Lingering after taste. Approachable now. Highly recommended.
